Dollar a Month is a nonprofit that makes giving easy. Each month, people from across the U.S. donate just one dollar, and together we support grassroots nonprofits doing incredible work in their local communities.

Each day of the month is dedicated to one or more U.S. states. On your state’s day, residents are encouraged to donate at least $1—or any amount you choose—on a recurring basis. You can decide whether your contribution supports nonprofits in your home state or goes where it’s needed most. Every dollar collected that day goes directly to a nonprofit within that state. One dollar may not seem like much, but when thousands come together, small change creates a big impact.

All donations go toward vetted grassroots nonprofits within the featured state for that day. These organizations are selected for their transparency, community impact, and alignment with our mission to strengthen local communities through generosity.

Absolutely! While the heart of the movement is “a dollar a month,” many donors choose to give extra to increase the impact. Every dollar counts and goes directly toward supporting that state’s nonprofit partner.

We select nonprofits based on a few criteria — including how long they’ve been operating, their community impact, transparency, and the needs they serve. Priority is given to smaller, grassroots organizations that often struggle to get national attention.

Our goal is to build a nation of everyday givers. By turning small acts of generosity into collective impact, we’re showing that when everyone gives a little, we can change a lot.

To us, “grassroots” means smaller nonprofits that are making a big impact — whether that’s locally or across the country. These are organizations that often run on limited budgets, rely on volunteers, and put most of their resources directly into their mission rather than marketing or overhead. They might not be household names, but they’re doing meaningful work that deserves more attention and support.
